Why should marketers and advertisers study consumer motivation? 
How does this knowledge help them to do their job?


There is a joke about the sales and marketing, I think everyone may hear this joke before.
Here is the joke:  

There were two salesperson. They went to Africa and wanted to open up new markets. After a long and tried trip, they arrived the Africa finally.  One salesperson called back to head-office and said, "I'll return on the next flight. Because everyone goes barefoot, we cannot sell shoes here." At the same time, the other salesperson reported to his company, he said: "The prospects are unlimited. Nobody wears shoes here.  We can make big money"
Being a salesperson, it is important to know what is actually consumers wantWhat is their thinking, feeling, and final decision.  Both marketer and advertisers should know how the consumer is influenced.  So, they adjust the sales strategies according to consumer's background, the environment,  culture, family, and so on.

Is it enough for marketers, manufacturers and advertisers to supply the right satisfactions or fill out consumer motivation for consumers.   No, I do not think so, a good one should create or increase  the purchase motivation for consumers.
